Peppol International Invoice (PINT) is OpenPeppol’s model and methodology for creating interoperable invoice and credit note specifications for different jurisdictions. The general PINT model provides the basis for national and regional specialisations.
How PINT is structured
A PINT specialisation reuses the shared data model and adds rules, code lists and requirements for the relevant jurisdiction. These may cover tax identifiers, local tax rules, reporting data and permitted document types.
The PINT methodology distinguishes Shared, Aligned and Distinct content. A document must therefore be validated against the applicable jurisdictional specialisation, not only against the general model.
PINT is not one global invoice format
PINT is a common foundation and specialisation method. Senders must use the specialisation, version and business process that apply to the recipient and the relevant jurisdiction.
OpenPeppol currently publishes specialisations for jurisdictions including Australia and New Zealand, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and the European Union. Availability, versions and release status may change through OpenPeppol’s release process.
Current general specification
The current general specification is Peppol PINT BIS Billing version 1.1.3, released on 5 June 2026. It covers Invoice and Credit Note transactions and uses UBL 2.1 XML.
