What is RosettaNet?

RosettaNet is a non-profit consortium that develops and promotes standardized electronic business interfaces for supply chain operations. It focuses on enhancing interoperability and efficiency in industries such as information technology, electronics, and telecommunications.

Key components

PIPs (Partner Interface Processes): Detailed business process specifications that define how information is exchanged. Examples include order management, inventory management, and logistics.
Dictionaries: Standardized terminology for products, partners, and business processes, ensuring clear and consistent communication.
Implementation Frameworks: Guidelines and best practices for effectively implementing RosettaNet standards.
Message Guidelines: Specifications for the structure and format of messages exchanged between partners, ensuring data consistency and interoperability.

Message types

RosettaNet defines its message types as Partner Interface Processes (PIPs). These PIPs standardize specific business processes and transactions between trading partners. Each PIP is designed to facilitate a particular type of interaction and is organized into clusters and segments based on the nature of the business process.

PIP 0A1: Notification of Failure – Used to notify a partner of a failure in a process or transaction.

Cluster 1: Partner, Product, and Service Review
PIP 1A1: Partner Profile Management – Used to manage the profile information of trading partners.
PIP 1A2: Product Information Notification – Used to share product information updates.

Cluster 2: Product Information
PIP 2A1: Request Price and Availability – Used to request information on product prices and availability.
PIP 2A2: Price and Availability Response – Used to respond to requests for price and availability.

Cluster 3: Order Management
PIP 3A1: Purchase Order Request – Used to place a purchase order.
PIP 3A2: Purchase Order Confirmation – Used to confirm receipt and acceptance of a purchase order.
PIP 3A4: Change Purchase Order – Used to request changes to an existing purchase order.
PIP 3B2: Invoice – Used to send an invoice for goods or services provided.

Cluster 4: Inventory Management
PIP 4A1: Inventory Report – Used to provide inventory status and levels.
PIP 4B2: Notify of Shipment Complete – Used to notify that a shipment has been completed.
